Discovering Fargo, ND: A Perfect Family Getaway

When it comes to planning a family-friendly getaway, Fargo, North Dakota might not be the first place that comes to mind. However, our recent weekend trip to Fargo proved that this vibrant city has a lot to offer for families seeking adventure, fun, and quality time together. From attending the free Midwest Kid Fest to exploring the city's many attractions, Fargo has something for everyone!


A Fun-Filled Weekend Itinerary

Our journey began with the highly anticipated Midwest Kid Fest, a free event that transforms Fargo into a paradise for kids. Held at Island Park, this festival features a wide range of activities, including arts and crafts, interactive games, and live entertainment. The smiles on our son's face were priceless as he participated in the various activities and enjoyed a morning outside!


Day 1: Embracing the Festival Spirit

  • Midwest Kid Fest: The highlight of our trip, this festival is a must-visit for families. With free admission and a plethora of activities, it's the perfect way to kickstart your Fargo adventure.

  • Downtown Fargo: We spent our final day exploring the charming streets of downtown Fargo. We enjoyed a delightful lunch at Wurst Bier Hall, known for its hearty German-inspired dishes and wide selection of beers.

  • Dinner at Brewhalla: Brewhalla is the perfect hotel for families visiting Fargo, after checking in, we explored the variety of food vendors, with options ranging from gourmet burgers to wood-fired pizzas, everyone found something delicious to enjoy amidst the vibrant atmosphere of this unique venue.


Day 2: Exploring Fargo's Hidden Gems

  • West Fargo Street Fair: This lively street fair is a great place to start your day and experience local culture, with numerous vendors, food stalls, and entertainment options that appeal to all ages.

  • Bonanzaville, USA: A visit to Bonanzaville offers a fascinating journey through history. This pioneer village and museum complex features historic buildings, artifacts, and exhibits that provide a glimpse into the region's past.

  • Red River Zoo: Home to a variety of exotic and native animals, the Red River Zoo offers an educational and entertaining experience for kids and adults alike. Our son loved the chance to see red pandas, gray wolves, and other fascinating creatures up close.

  • Fargo Brewing and 46 North Pints: After a day of exploring, we stopped by Fargo Brewing for a refreshing craft beer. The relaxed atmosphere was perfect for unwinding. For dinner, we headed to 46 North Pints, where the menu delighted everyone with its delicious options, making it a great spot for a family meal.


Day 3: Enjoying Local Flavors and Relaxation

  • Visitor's Center and Fargo Woodchipper: We started our final day with a visit to the Fargo Visitor's Center to see the famous woodchipper from the movie "Fargo." It was a fun and quirky photo opportunity that added a unique touch to our trip.

  • Brunch at Prairie Kitchen in 701 Eateries: For brunch, we headed to Prairie Kitchen in 701 Eateries. The delicious food and cozy atmosphere made it the perfect place to relax and enjoy a leisurely meal before continuing our day.


The Perfect Stay at Brewhalla

A trip to Fargo wouldn't be complete without a comfortable and family-friendly place to stay. Brewhalla is the perfect hotel for families visiting Fargo. Located in the heart of the city, this unique hotel offers spacious rooms, modern amenities, and a welcoming atmosphere that made our stay truly enjoyable. The kids loved the on-site game room, while we appreciated the convenience of the hotel's location, which made exploring Fargo's attractions a breeze. Plus, the hotel's connection to Drekker Brewing Company means that parents can unwind with a craft beer after a day of family fun. Nearby, the local market offered a great opportunity to shop for unique Fargo goods and gifts, adding a memorable touch to our stay.

The city's commitment to providing free events like the Midwest Kid Fest, along with its array of museums, parks, and cultural sites, makes it an ideal destination for families looking to create lasting memories.


Whether you're exploring the animal exhibits at the Red River Zoo, engaging in hands-on learning at the Children's Museum, or simply enjoying the local flavors and scenery, Fargo offers a little something for everyone. Our weekend in Fargo was filled with laughter, discovery, and quality family time – everything we hoped for in a family getaway.
